Staying creative during Lockdown 2.0

I’ve been really struggling with this lockdown. Once the Christmas & New Year celebrations ended & the decorations were taken down the spark just seemed to disappear.

We’ve all just settled back into a monotonous routine of eat, work from home, sleep & repeat. Each of us in our own little worlds & aside from being with the kids, helping them with school work & the usual chores etc, I just feel like I’ve faded into the furniture. Often I find I’m just not needed or due to my health issues I’m sofa bound & in too much pain to focus on things for very long.

I needed a distraction so I started looking back through my old makeup work on my Instagram & decided I wanted to recreate some of them to see just how much my skills had improved. As this also involves being shut in my room for an hour or 2 by myself this seemed like a great idea for keeping my mind busy during a flare up & having some alone time.

So this week, that’s exactly what I did. I found this look that I originally created in 2018 before I went for some 1-1 training at the P.Louise Makeup Academy.

I also attempted to do a similar look in April 2020 during the 1st Lockdown & I remember being so pleased with how it turned out then. I continued to keep practicing throughout last year & challenged myself a lot, trying out new techniques & also investing time in getting to grips with new products & how best to use them.

So when I recreated this look last week I was so shocked at the difference in my makeup work now compared with what it was like last year & from when I 1st did the look a few years ago!

I noticed even more when I actually put them side by side!

In less than a year I have learnt so much & pushed myself as a makeup artist & now I am finally at a point where I feel proud of my work & how far I have come. I’ve been a makeup artist for 11 years, that’s over a decade & for the most part of my career I have been self taught too.

I never imagined I would be creating looks like this today & even though I’m stuck in Lockdown 2.0 with only my face to practice on, I can see that I’m still making progress.

So despite everything that’s going on, setting myself this challenge to recreate my old looks is really helping me to get through & tough it out coz each step I take is a step towards reaching my goal & becoming the best makeup artist that I can be.

I recently purchased a couple of online makeup tutorial from the P.Louise Makeup Academy that have really helped inspire me to get more creative so I can’t wait to get practicing again this week.

Don’t feel like you have to give up on your dreams because you’re in a difficult situation. Make it work to your advantage, whether that’s doing some online training, using this time to re-brand yourself or even moving what you do to online. You owe it to yourself not to give up, keep moving forward, focus on something that you’re passionate about & you’ll get through this!

If you’d like to see exactly how I created this look I have a shirt video tutorial over on my Instagram page along with a full product list. Just click here Sunset makeup tutorial
